Aldo

Being banished from my pack for an entire year stung like no other. I had experienced all sorts of pain throughout my life, and none truly compared to be cut off from my pack.

Though I couldn’t blame my Alpha for making that call. If I was forced into the position he was just in, I probably would have done the same. Even still, my reasoning didn’t change how much banishment bothered me, despite it being for only one year.

I wasn’t surprised by the punishment inflicted on me. I had anticipated banishment as a possibility of something I would have to suffer through when I got involved with Taria. It was a risk I had accepted and willingly made. But that didn’t mean I hadn’t wished for things to have turned out differently. I very much so wished for things to be different.

Different outcomes. Different circumstances.

But wishful thinking did nothing good for me. Even though I couldn’t stop.

I also wished I could see Taria. To hold her in my arms, breathe in the scent of her hair, or taste the honey in her lips. Just to have her close to me and never let her go. That’s what I desired above all else.

Since I couldn’t have her for my company, I took solace in the next best thing. Being around the humans in Beaver Brook. At least I could lose myself in the town. For a little while anyway.

I wandered through the town’s roads for hours with my thoughts occupied by Taria. I entertained a constant fantasy of us being together, running through the woods, playing in a stream, or even making love like we usually did when we were together. Other scenarios played in my mind, but the point was, even if only in my mind, we were together.

No one could stop us inside my mind. Nothing could get in the way of us being together. The sky was the limit in terms of possibilities.

Unlike the cold smack of reality. My arms were empty, and Taria was with her pack, being held against her will to protect against her blood being tainted by mine. Our circumstances made it harder to be together, which was why she constantly had to sneak out to be near me. We were from different worlds, and our pack leaders decided that our blood shouldn’t mix. The rule was set long ago, and had been clung to religiously for hundreds of years.

Bears were supposed to mate with Bears. Leopards were supposed to mate with leopards. Despite the frown that thought caused me, I ached for her fiercely.

For hours upon hours, I had walked around the town, aimlessly, daydreaming of being with Taria. Just as the sun was starting to set over the peaks of the mountain range, I had finally made my way to the main street and absentmindedly strolled along the sidewalk, blending in with the humans, and spotting couples all over. Seeing how happy the lovers were together stabbed at my heart and made me yearn for Taria all the more.
